Urgent Treatment Centre

We are part of the team that provides GP services, at the Urgent treatment centre (UTC) at Arrowe Park Hospital, Wirral. We are commissioned to provide in-hour GPs who offer urgent appointments 10.5 hours a day – 8am – 6:30pm, Monday to Friday, whilst Wirral Community Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust provide the out-of-hours service, from 6:30pm – 8am, Mon – Fri. We work together across protocols and pathways.

The patient always comes first, and as outlined in the NHS Long Term Plan (LTP), the NHS’s aim is to ensure patients get the care they need, fast, and to relieve pressure on A&E departments.

The UTC is equipped to deal with minor injuries and illnesses and many of the non-urgent issues that people may attend A&E for, and was designed to support Walk-in Centres across Wirral and also reduce the pressure on hospitals – leaving other parts of the system free to treat the most serious cases. Appointments can be booked through 111 or through your GP practice – for urgent medical needs that aren’t life threatening.

Our team of GPs at the UTC work alongside other parts of the health system including GP practices, community pharmacists, ambulance and other community-based services to provide a locally accessible and convenient alternative to A&E for patients who do not need to attend hospital. We go into more detail about why UTCs are so important here.

How do we do it?

To manage this service, we utilise our StaffBox software to allow the service to organise and streamline their rostering.

From Nov 23 – Nov 24, our GPs have supported 13,315 patients 👏

It’s an extremely fast-paced environment and by working together, they all help to keep it running smoothly.
